Heroes Volume 6

This could either be the season finale or the series finale of Heroes. The cast seems pretty confident that the show is coming back, however NBC has been pretty mum about the whole thing. Either way it goes down, this season has definitely been…interesting and filled with ups and downs. Let’s see what kind of note we end on.

Noah and Claire are still buried under ground and Noah determines they’re down about 40 or 50 feet. The plan is for Claire to have to watch her father suffocate to death while she lives. Lauren walks right over the trailer and obviously can’t hear them screaming from that far down. Claire starts digging, but it’s pretty pointless, and Noah wants to give his death speech even though Claire just wants to get them out of there. She thinks that maybe the world is more ready to accept people with abilities than he thinks, but he points out all it takes is one Sylar to ruin the whole thing.

He’s running out of oxygen quickly and there’s a lot of crying while he makes her promise that she’ll hide her ability before he passes out. Claire starts digging again, and hits water, but it turns out to be Tracy. She does some trick to get them out of there, and Lauren is waiting on the other side to fill them in on the carnival happenings.

Peter and Sylar broke through the wall of metaphor only to be confronted by Eli when they leave to rescue Emma. Matt can’t really use his mind mojo because apparently the Eli guys are brainless as a separate unit and they go about torturing him. Sylar gains the upper hand, but Matt’s having a hard time trusting him, even after Peter reads Eli’s mind to figure out Samuel’s plan.

Sylar tries to explain that he can redeem himself and tells Matt to go into his head and decide for himself if he’s really changed. Matt’s still not convinced, but after Peter says he has to trust them, he lets them go. But they leave Eli behind and while he’s unconscious Matt brainwashes him.

Samuel gives a speech about how badly the world has treated people with abilities, but really he doesn’t give a crap about any of the carnies, just himself. Everyone totally buys into it though, even though he only needs them around to use his epic power. Oh yeah, and the carnival has set up shop in Central Park. In order to bring more people to the carnival, Samuel tells Emma it’s time for her to play the cello, but she remembers the dream Peter had and tries to walk out. Doyle controls her though; so much for being a good guy.

Emma is puppeted to play, and I want to know how Doyle even knows the right notes, because that shouldn’t really work. She draws in a whole crowd of people for Samuel to kill, but finally Noah, Claire, Peter and Sylar show up. Sylar heads out to find Emma, but before Noah can really do anything, Edgar puts a knife to his throat. Finding Emma, Sylar tells her she’ll be alright, but Doyle decides now is the time to start getting super cocky with his ability. He slips up eventually, and Emma is able to flash her power at Doyle so that Sylar can take control.

Claire runs to try and tell the carnies what’s up but all of them are so brainwashed by Samuel it doesn’t matter. It turns out though, Edgar is totally on Claire and Noah’s side, and so is Eli now that Matt has brainwashed him. Claire keeps going with her rant about why the carnival was small when Joseph was alive, and then she lets it out that Samuel killed his own brother. Everyone vouches for Samuel until Noah, Edgar, and Eli speak up and Eli confirms that Samuel made him kill Lydia. Everyone disperses but not before Samuel starts his revenge against humanity.

The ground starts to shake, rattle, and roll, but then Peter bowls Samuel over and takes his ability, so now it’s just like season one only it’s Samuel instead of Sylar and it’s more lame. The fight doesn’t last long though, because once Hiro gets there, he teleports every single person with abilities away. Samuel is rendered impotent and Noah wins for the quip of the night: “I gotta say. I never liked carnivals.”

Meanwhile, Hiro gets a note from Charlie that asks him to come find her in a hospital room. And this is where I officially hate this show because Charlie is in the hospital, but she’s about 80 years and dying. Now Charlie and Hiro will never have their happy ever after and UGH WHAT A TOTAL COP OUT. Anyway, she was taken back to January 26th, 1944. Hiro decides to try and mess with time again by going to 1944 to bring Charlie back to the present. Ando attempts to talk him out of it, but Hiro won’t hear it. That is until Charlie’s granddaughter comes running in. It turns out she went out and had kids and a life. So, Hiro gives up the ghost and heads to the carnival.

At the end of the episode, Emma tells Peter that Sylar saved her, and while we’re expecting Sylar to have killed the hell out of Doyle, instead he’s strung him up in lights so that he can’t use his ability. When a camera crew comes out to ask questions about what happened, Claire takes the opportunity to jump off the top of the Ferris Wheel. SECRET’S OUT!

Well, that’s that. I hope it was the end because it was, in my opinion, a perfect SERIES finale. The whole thing felt so anti-climatic. The fight at the end wasn’t really epic at all; there was no wondering who would make it out alive. We knew what was going to happen so you’ll pardon me if I didn’t think this was the greatest of season finales. I catch a lot of flack for not loving this show unconditionally because I recap it, but I’m not one to love blindly. So, what did you think? Are you pulling for another season or would you like for Heroes to be done? Leave me your Two Cents in the comments, and (maybe) I’ll see you next season!
