Today Is Pakistan Defence Day

LAHORE, Punjb, Pakistan: The Defence of Pakistan Day is being observed on Sunday with traditional zeal and solemnity to pay homage to all those who rendered the supreme sacrifice during the 1965 war. The nation is observing this day every year with a renewed pledge to sacrifice everything to defend the geographical and ideological frontiers of the country.

The day will dawn with special prayers in all the mosques for the wellbeing and prosperity of the country. In addition to this ‘Fateha Khawani’ will be held at the graves of the Shuhada, while special prayers will be offered for the preservation of the integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan.

Messages from the services chiefs will be read out in all formation headquarters and unit durbars. The Hilal-i-Istaqlal will be hoisted in Sialkot, Sargodha and Lahore. Wreath-laying ceremonies will be held at the mausoleums of recipients of Nishan-i-Haider, the highest gallantry award. Other programmes include floral wreaths on ‘Mazars’ of Quaid-e-Azam and Hazrat Allama Iqbal by PAF and HQ-4 Corps, respectively. Special ‘Durbars’ and ‘Bara Khana’ for troops at unit/garrison levels will also part of the programmes.

The Interior Ministry has already issued special directions to all provincial governments, government of AJK, Chief Secretary Northern Areas and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Administration for celebrating the day in befitting manner. Different educational institutions have also arranged special programmes to highlight the importance of the day.

Newspapers will bring out special supplements while radio and TV channels will beam special programmes to mark the day. Highlighting the significance of the day, Defence analysts said the Day reminds us of the indomitable courage of the people and armed forces of Pakistan in thwarting nefarious designs of the enemy.

They said the supreme sacrifices rendered by the Shuhada and Ghazis served as a beacon of light and source of strength for us and the nation could rightly be proud of the outstanding courage of the defenders of the motherland. At a time, when the country was facing internal and external challenges, the need of the hour is to forge national unity to thwart these designs, they said.
